Eclipse

LAST summer saw the world come to a standstill for the greatest eclipse in living memory but Blackpool has had a nightly Eclipse for the last three years. The combination of ballet, circus and West End musical first took audiences by storm two seasons ago has also filled the Pleasure Beach Globe as a winter attraction. But director and producer Amanda Thompson has bigger plans for the most innovative presentation to be created in Blackpool for years.
"If all goes to plan this summer will be last chance to see Eclipse in Blackpool," she revealed.
Together with her shows in the Pleasure Beach Arena, The Star and the Horseshoe Showbar Amanda says her Blackpool commitment takes up a full five months of the year.
This year Eclipse again features an acclaimed new score by Joe O'Conner, some new members of the company and newchoreography.
As for the show's styar Vladimir, he admits that Blackpool has become a second home to him.

Hot Ice

Set to skate off in another direction this year with a touch of rythmos.
Translated from Greek means something on the lines of 'free to flow'. It's also the name of the hour long ice ballet which takes up the whole of the first half of Blackpool Pleasure Beache's long running, ground breaking season show.
Devised by Hot Ice director Amanda Thompson and her stageworks Worldwide team, the action with its images of urban decay, treadmill living ultimate freedom, gives a fantasy feel to the 63rd prodution. "Rythmos is straight from the imagination. Everyone has heard of extreme sports - it is so challenging and demanding on the performers.

Roy Chubby Brown

Broad minded Adults only. NORTH Pier's weekend summer star Roy Chubby Brown still plays to more than 250,000 people a year and has sold over £30 million worth of videos in the UK alone.
Despite fame and fortune he still works three or four nights a week - usually only taking christmas and New Year off.
"It's all I know now what to do," says Roy when asked how he manages to keep up such a gruelling schedule.
"I've been doing this for the best part of my life now and if I can make the audience laugh then whilst they are laughing they aren't fighting!" He can spend up to six hours a day writing new magterial and often calls friends to get a line out on them. When asked why he hasn't toured abroad much until now he says: "When you have to conquer your own country without television it takes a long time and I never felt I had nowhere elde to go in the Uk until now - and thats why we have decided to see if we can make Chubby cosmopolitan.
His first world tour took in the USA, Australia and Hong Kong and was released as a video after his contraversial movie debut UFO.
"I vowed I would never make a studio based film again," he says. "For starters I had to stop touring as much and I hated being cooped up on a film set all day because you begin to lose touch with reality."
But doesn't he ever get sick of life on the road?
"I plan to spend two months a year touring abroad just to get away from the lousy British weather." he says. "I will still be touring in all the usual UK towns as well so it will just mean I will have to work an extra night a week.
"Now would I do that if I was getting sick of it? I love it!"
